Overseeding is the process of spreading grass seed via a spreader to thicken the lawn and repair thin spots. Here in the northeast the two best times for overseeding are the spring and in the fall.
There are many grass types to choose from:
Kentucky blue grass: Lovely blue green color in summer. Not very drought tolerant
Fine fescues: Thin bladed very drought tolerant. Dark green color.
Coarse Fescues: Thick bladed not as drought tolerant.
Perrenial ryegrass: Best of bluegrass and fescues. light to medium green color. Medium traffic tolerance.
